Devon company dramatically reduces accidents by using pocket-sized dashboard tech

Two Devon businesses have partnered up to make Amberon's fleet safer

Amberon Group Ltd, has seen a dramatic 45% reduction in accidents and an associated drop in severity of accidents following the installation of another Devon based business' in-cab driver guidance device.

The Paignton-headquarted business, which is the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s leading Traffic Management Provider, is using the tech across its fleet of over 800 commercial vehicles and company cars.

Amberon, which provides a º£½ÇÊÓƵ-wide service delivering solutions ranging from temporary traffic light schemes and high-speed contraflows to traffic management surveys as well as barrier installation, repair and event management, is now well on course to reducing its insurance premiums.

“We’ve used telematics solutions in the past,” said Amberon Group Transport Manager, John Welch.

“Drivers looked at the vehicle as a tool to do the job and no more. The engagement piece of the puzzle was missing.

"Now, with Lightfoot, that’s changed. There has been as psychological change in the relationship between our drivers and their vehicles, enabled by Lightfoot’s driver rewards, benefits and league platform.

“Lightfoot has given our drivers a badge to prove they are professional drivers. Their mindset has changed completely. Now, we have healthy competition. All our drivers have smartphones and compare their scores on the Lightfoot app and, as a result, accidents ratios have almost halved. Accidents are also less severe and, as long as we sustain these changes, our insurers have told us that we can expect a reduction in our premiums.”

The pocket-sized dashboard display device uses live engine data to provide drivers with real-time visual and verbal feedback, helping fleets to improve efficiency and safety one mile at a time.
