A Derbyshire firm behind technology that can protect armoured vehicles from mine and IED blasts has smashed a six-figure crowdfunding target.

Advanced Blast and Ballistic Systems (ABBS), which is based near Ashbourne, had originally set a Crowdcube target of £100,000.

However, the business has so far more than doubled that amount with days of the campaign still remaining. To date, more than £250,000 has been raised from almost 900 investors.

Founded by Roger Sloman in 2009, the company, has developed globally patented systems to counteract the huge forces on an armoured vehicle when a mine or IED (Improvised Explosive Device) explodes underneath it.

According to the firm, around 80% of º£½ÇÊÓƵ and US casualties in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts were caused due to mines and IEDs.

With the terrorist threat still evident in many countries across the world, ABBS believes there remains a market for its potentially life-saving system.

ABBS has carried out tests on vehicles, the results of which have suggested that occupants can be completely protected from such devices using its system.

Mr Sloman has dedicated over a decade researching the system and the business has so far invested millions of pounds in the project.
