County Durham tech firm Filtronic is toasting success after sealing a £13.4m defence deal.
The NETPark company, which designs and manufactures advanced RF solutions for the space, aerospace and defence, and telecoms infrastructure markets, has announced a new contract award to supply high-performance modules for an electronic sensor system.
Directors said the transaction has been awarded for “the complex manufacture and testing of critical components”. Delivery is expected to start in the middle of next year and the modules will be built and tested at Filtronic’s new hybrid microelectronics facility in Sedgefield.
Nat Edington, chief executive, said: “We are proud to continue strengthening our defence portfolio, which highlights the market’s ongoing confidence in our ability to execute complex programmes to the highest standards. Aerospace and defence remains a key sector in our growth strategy, and this latest order reflects Filtronic’s proven track record of successful project delivery, collaborative partnerships, and manufacturing excellence.”
The deal comes during a strong period for the company, which has more than doubled the size of its engineering and project management teams over the past year on the back of a number of key contracts. Filtronic last month reported huge growth in revenue and earnings as its raises expectations yet again.
The firm told shareholders that full year 2025 revenue is expected to have jumped 120% to £56.3m, from £25.4m, while Ebitda is expected to have more than trebled from £4.9m to £16.6m.

Growth comes in part from its stellar partnership with rocket giant SpaceX, as well as contract wins with Viasat the European Space Agency and defence contractor Leonardo.
Bosses said the growth has been achieved despite the well-documented skills gap in engineering, and, recognising the competitive landscape for specialist skills, the company has adopted a proactive approach by establishing design offices in locations renowned for their engineering talent.
Mr Edington said Filtronic is also continuing to actively recruit engineers, project managers and technical specialists.
He added: “Our ability to scale our engineering and programme management teams is a clear indication of Filtronic’s momentum. We are investing in talent, infrastructure and leadership to ensure we continue delivering high-performance, bespoke solutions to our customers. As we grow, we remain committed to excellence in design, execution, and service.”
