Broadband operator Netomnia has announced it will invest an initial £47.5m to roll out its high-speed full-fibre network in and around Bristol.

The Gloucestershire-based firm said it was targeting a total of 159,000 premises in the first phase of what will be its third roll out in a major º£½ÇÊÓƵ city.

The company said it had already begun work in Downed, South Gloucestershire on the city’s north east edge, and would begin work in neighbouring Kingswood and Filton in the coming weeks.

Netomnia makes wholesale connectivity available to internet service providers, building the infrastructure for their broadband services.

The company is currently rolling out full-fibre infrastructure in more than 50 areas across England, Scotland and Wales and will soon be starting its first rollout in Northern Ireland, in a bid to become the first alt-net with network presence in all four º£½ÇÊÓƵ countries.

Its latest expansion comes after Netomnia announced a £3.3m investment to connect residents and businesses in Tewkesbury, where the firm is headquartered.

Chief executive Jeremey Chelot said: “We are looking forward to expanding our full fibre network to Bristol, ensuring residents and businesses have access to reliable digital infrastructure that can support the local economy.

“Full fibre allows residents to do everything with ease, providing faster speeds and a more environmentally friendly solution. We are rapidly growing across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, currently building at a rate of 30,000 premises passed per month, to ensure as many people as possible have access to fast and reliable full-fibre broadband.”
