Bristol has been named the third-most innovative city in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, according to new data.

The research by engineering company Geomiq was carried out over two years and is based on locations that requested the most prototypes for inventions.

Bristol was ranked third with 7,712 requests, behind Manchester (13,695) and London (9,301).

Meanwhile, Birmingham and Edinburgh were fourth and fifth on the list.

The platform also revealed the industries experiencing a boost in innovation, with health topping the list for 2019. Eco-tech, beauty, education and cooking also ranked highly.

Since the Brexit extension was announced in October, the company says it has seen a 31 per cent increase in the number of requests compared with the month before the announcement.

In total, the platform has seen more than 48,000 files and prototype designs submitted in the last two years across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

These files allow 3D printers and CNC machines to robotically engineer each individual product.
