A Bristol data science and digital services company has secured a two-year contract worth £8.3m with the Royal Navy.

The deal will see Queen's Square-based Techmodal become the Navy's digital service programme partner for data science.

The business was acquired by BAE Systems in 2020 and employs around 120 staff and 30 associates.

It already has a number of long-term contracts with the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Ministry of Defence (MoD) in support of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s armed forces, particularly the Army, Strategic Command and Royal Navy.

The latest contract will see Techmodal create a data science delivery cell with the Royal Navy’s Digital Services (NDS) division to help the force become a fully digital organisation by 2023.

According to Techmodal, the cell will provide it with "operational advantage" and will drive a digital culture.

Gareth Vaughan, managing director at Techmodal, said winning the work was a "fantastic outcome" for the team.

He said: "We are looking forward to getting stuck into tasks that will rapidly deliver lasting benefit to the Royal Navy by unleashing the potential of their data.”
