Augmented reality firm Aircards strikes deal with Hewlett Packard

The company allows customers to use AR technology alongside traditional paper flyers

A Newcastle augmented reality (AR) firm has struck a deal with tech giant Hewlett Packard to use its technology in a major advertising campaign.

Aircards specialises in using AR to bring physical paper products, such as business cards and postcards, to life using its cutting edge technology.

It is now working with Hewlett Packard Enterprise on the US firm’s direct mail campaign, which is advertising its new software storage product HPE Primera.

Aircards created an augmented reality experience that was embedded onto the printed flyer using a QR code. Hewlett Packard then distributed the flyer to its customer base.

The Newcastle firm technology means that customers can access AR technology without the need for expensive headsets and allows people to view the content using their smartphone. This makes the AR advertising widely available.

The Hewlett Packard campaign allows the user to choose between of one of three exotic worldwide locations, and then virtually transports them there. After interacting with the software the user is then encouraged to visit the microsite for HPE Primera.
