Energy infrastructure firm Aberla Utilities has announced a four-year partnership with a Spanish telecoms firm with the aim of designing, surveying and installing a fibre network infrastructure across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Warrington firm Aberla's new deal with Gabitel Ingenieros will last for four years and reach homes around the country.

With the telecommunications sector growing "exponentially", the Government wants all homes to have access to full fibre - which uses fibre optic cables for faster download and connection speeds - by 2025. But recent figures show just 10% have access.

Aberla, part of the Aberla Group, said it is targeting 500,000 fibre surveys in the first year and is currently on track for completion.

Paul McCarren, chief executive officer at the Aberla Group said: “We are always looking to innovate and develop the services we provide for our clients.

"Our partnership with Gabitel complements the existing fibre installation activities we are currently undertaking for multiple clients across the North of England.”

The partnership has developed a "class-leading" digital surveying and design tool, enabling the businesses to improve response times and ensure accuracy.

Investment and collaboration are "essential" to achieving the government’s target of a full fibre infrastructure by 2025, Mr McCarren said.
