Blackrow Engineering has embraced a third environmental project in its home borough.

The company behind the acclaimed recent recycling installations in Cleethorpes is now supporting James Elliott, Grimsby’s Canoe River Cleaner.

Since December he has collected more than 300 bags of rubbish from the Freshney, with plastics and cans retrieved alongside shopping trolleys, bikes and even furniture.

Director Gary Pexman said the impact James is having on the river furthered what had been done by his team with the fabrication of the eye-catching Globe and Hammy the Haddock receptacles.

They are now in place on the North and Central Promenade, having been produced by the South Humberside Industrial Estate company.

“When James approached us explaining his intention of keeping the river clean and reducing the pollution in what was once a focal point of our town, we could not pass up the opportunity to support him,” Mr Pexman said.

“James’ efforts have touched the hearts and imagination of the local community, and he was keen to continue his good work. With funding not available through the local authority, he turned to local businesses for support. He was keen, however, to work with companies who had the same passion for the environment as he did, rather than just a sponsorship opportunity.

“Blackrow and The Canoe River Cleaner are the perfect match.”
