Roads and bridges connect the three finalists for the Infrastructure Project of the Year title in the 2025 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.
Infrastructure for transport and residents in three Leicester locations are competing for the award sponsored by Galliford Try, one of nine in this year’s 22nd ProCon Leicestershire Awards.

A50 Corridor - Fiveways Junction, Leicester , submitted by Leicester City Council
The £8.5m A50 corridor project included substantial remodelling of the Fiveways junction – a long term source of driver confusion, congestion and disruption along one of the busiest strategic routes in Leicester.
Designed to support Leicester’s Waterside regeneration area, the project also included the extension of segregated cycle tracks along the entire arterial route, connecting the city centre to destinations including Glenfield Hospital.
Also included were a new bus lane, traffic calming works in local neighbourhood streets and public realm works along the Woodgate Corridor and around a local shopping precinct.
Broadnook Garden Village – Phase 1, Leicestershire , submitted by Davidsons Homes

The infrastructure and landscaping enabling the creation of Leicestershire’s first garden village has created a Charnwood Forest inspired sense of arrival and a sense of place for Broadnook, just south of Rothley.
The first residents have moved in to what will total 1,950 homes, with Broadnook also set to include employment and commercial development and a new village centre with a shop, care home and sports facilities.
The infrastructure works included the construction of two new roundabouts and junctions on and adjacent to the A6. The developer also delivered extensive landscaping features and landscaped grounds ahead of the timescales required by the planning permission.
Watkin Road Bridge, Leicester , submitted by Danaher & Walsh Civil Engineering
Two new bridges were constructed across the old River Soar to replace an old bridge to the Freemens Meadow housing in Leicester.
The existing timber and steel road bridge had reached the end of its design life and was replaced by two parallel bridges. The project included new footways and cycle lanes and upgrades for the junction of Watkin Road and Upperton Road.
The project was completed whilst ensuring that residents of the 600 homes and businesses always had uninterrupted access to Freemens Meadow.
