An independent kitemark established to formally recognise good employers is backing finalists of a major North East business awards.
The 鈥楪ood Work Pledge鈥 was established in 2020 by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, headed by Metro Mayor Jamie Driscoll.
The scheme is designed to help organisations demonstrate their commitment to providing not just jobs but good jobs that provide security, development opportunities, fair representation, and a decent standard of living.
Companies seeking accreditation must exhibit their commitment to, for example, paying their staff and supply chains the Real Living Wage, offering flexible working options to employees, and having policies that promote equality and diversity and protect workers鈥 rights.
Now, the scheme is celebrating having exceeded 100 accredited organisations 鈥 ranging from large corporations to micro businesses and charities. The scheme is freely available to all employers.
As a result of its continued growth and success, the scheme is supporting ambitious businesses in this year鈥檚 North East Business Awards. The Good Work Pledge is sponsoring the finalist announcements for Tyneside and Northumberland.

Square One Law was the 100th business to receive an Advanced Award of the pledge.
Managing Partner Gillian Hunter said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 easy to say you do things but it鈥檚 harder to actually do them, that鈥檚 why we have committed to the Good Work Pledge.
"At Square One Law we are committed to having a sustainable, inclusive business which treats its people fairly and creates opportunities for growth. The pledge really resonates with our values, and we are delighted to support it.鈥
At a time of increasing economic uncertainty, Metro Mayor Jamie Driscoll praised organisations that have committed to the scheme 鈥 and called on more organisations to .
He said: 鈥淎s we stare down the barrel of a cost of living crisis, good work matters more than ever. It鈥檚 great to see so many employers help to lead the charge against in-work poverty. I want to thank them for their commitment.
鈥淓very employer in the region should aspire to be a good employer. Every employer should sign our Good Work Pledge.鈥
Good luck to all the entrants of this year鈥檚 North East Business Awards.
