The sector is booming, with the government pledging to invest £600 million in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s construction skills.

But with a forecasted extra 251,500 construction workers needed by 2028, industry-wide skills shortages and a lack of young talent entering the industry, this boom could be brought to a shuddering halt. The University of Salford’s apprenticeship programmes are designed to bridge these gaps and meet the needs of your organisation.

With accredited apprenticeships from Levels 4 to 6, courses are designed to upskill apprentices at every stage, from new starters and junior team members to experienced professionals looking to take the next step.

Rewarding hard work with opportunity

Apprenticeships are a cost-effective training solution that helps companies attract new talent and retain skilled team members. By choosing apprenticeships, employers are strengthening their workforce and creating paths for career progression within the organisation that, due to the Apprenticeship Levy, could be fully or 95% funded by the government.

According to government statistics, 80% of employers have seen a significant increase in employee retention due to apprenticeships and 92% believe apprenticeships lead to a more motivated and satisfied workforce.

Lee Womersley, Engineering Manager for MGF, said: “[Apprenticeships] are helping to grow a competent, expert-driven workforce who can deliver for the business, its customers and the general public, and providing a prosperous career where hard work is rewarded with opportunity and genuine progression.”

Delivered by one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s leading centres for built environment education, the University of Salford’s apprenticeship programmes are tailored to meet the key industry challenges facing companies in the North West. Since 2016, the University has partnered with over 780 employers, including some of the leading construction and engineering companies in the country.

Scott Bell, Training, Competence and Early Talent Lead at Laing O’Rourke, an international engineering and construction company, said: “It’s essential to continuously build skills capacity within our organisation, with apprentices key to our talent pipeline. We’ve been working with the University for over six years now, and we know they've got a well-structured delivery arm with the right people at the University to support our apprentices and to monitor their progress.”
