Welsh hospitality firms 'struggling for survival' as calls made for reopening roadmap

Welsh hospitality firms are "struggling for survival" as calls are made for a reopening roadmap for the sector.

Last week First Minister Mark Drakeford gave provisional reopening dates for non-essential retail and hairdressers as well as an indication when self contained tourism and outdoor attractions could open.

But so far there has been no provisional date for hospitality in Wales.

Yesterday Prime Minister Boris Johnson laid down provisional opening dates for the sector in England - increasing calls for the same for Welsh businesses.

"The industry needs a strong commitment to reopen, consistency in rolling out, and without unnecessary restrictions - and a clarity of communication to create commercial and customer confidence in all our marketplaces.

"Welsh Government have indicated that our starting gun here could well be pre-Easter for self-contained accommodation if all goes well.

"After that we need to see our pub, cafe, hotel, restaurant and other hospitality businesses open up quickly, safely and methodically to rekindle the vital visitor economy as soon as possible - and we'll do all we can to help that to happen.
