Welsh holiday park company wants Wales to follow England and drop all Covid restrictions

A holiday park giant fears Wales could lose out if the Welsh Government does not follow the plan in England to remove Covid restrictions on July 19.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has set out plans to get rid of capacity limits, social distancing, compulsory mask wearing and open up nightclubs in England on that date.

It comes despite a major spike in Covid cases due to the more transmissible Delta variant.

The infection rate in England is around 240 per 100,000 and North Wales has suffered a hike in cases, partly due to the close ties with the North West of England, which has been badly affected.

But the success of the vaccine rollout has meant the link between cases and serious illness or death has been weakened with hospitalisations not rising at the rate of last autumn.

This is why the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government believes the time is right to fully open up the economy and society - although many scientists and doctors have voiced concerns over the approach.

Welsh Government is due to give an update on this country’s roadmap out of restrictions next Wednesday.

The bosses of Lyons Holiday Parks, based in Rhyl and with parks along the North Wales coast, have two major concerns if this deviates significantly from the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government approach.
