Welsh Government told by hospitality sector that rule of 6 needed for indoor opening

A hospitality group says the rule of six should be applied indoors when restaurants, pubs and cafes reopen indoors in Wales this month.

Outdoor hospitality reopened in Wales last month with the Welsh Government allowing six people from different households to meet up.

However, many businesses don't have outdoor spaces or have been scuppered by the weather - meaning they are relying on indoor opening, which is due to start on May 17.

The guidelines have still not been published for operators but First Minister Mark Drakeford has previously indicated a rule of 4 for indoors.

But º£½ÇÊÓƵHospitality Cymru - who have been in negotiations with officials on the new guidelines - want Welsh Government to move to a rule of 6 for indoors.

This would put it in line with outdoor rules and on a level playing field with hospitality in England - also making it easier for staff to apply and enforce the rules.

Bosses are desperate to get new guidance as bookings flood in for the second half of May and also information on how extra financial support will be allocated.

The Senedd elections - where Welsh Labour secured 30 of 60 seats at Cardiff Bay - have delayed final decisions but updates are now expected early next week.
