A village convenience store has opened a bar to allow shoppers to enjoy a pint while they pick up the day’s groceries.

The owners of the Nisa Local shop in the Leicestershire village of Earl Shilton have install draft beer pumps in a bistro at the rear of the store for customers to enjoy.

It is not the first unusual place to serve been in the village after the former NatWest Bank down the road became a micro-pub called Shilton Vaults.

The bistro inside the Nisa shop has been re-branded and is now known as the Pig on a Fork with new signs and matching menus, and offers evening meals as well as snacks and light bites during the day.

Owner Sukhi Dhami said by putting everything together under one roof they are driving sales as well as customer satisfaction.

Mr Dhami said: “When we first launched, we designed the eating area as a coffee shop with a barista and offered cakes and light snacks.

“During Covid we closed it down and moved a hot unit into the store and served pastries and pizzas. They absolutely flew out and so we decided to expand by offering proper lunches in the bistro and it has just grown from there.

“It’s a nice place for people to come and really looks the part. People are coming in and having a bite to eat with their kids after school.
