Greater Manchester-headquartered consumer goods giant Ultimate Products has completed the £34m acquisition of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's oldest houseware brand.

The Oldham-based company first announced the move for Salter Brands which dates back to 1760, and raised about £15m to fund it, in June.

Since 2011, Ultimate Products has licensed the Salter brand for the sale of kitchen electrical and cookware products, not including Salter scales, with the current licence due to expire in 2024.

The brand has a long and varied history including the works football team which was formed in 1878 becoming West Bromwich Albion and the company producing the first commercially available typewriter in 1892.

The acquisition from FKA Brands will provide Ultimate Products with the opportunity to further develop Salter's international sales, which have been described by the firm as "modest".

It will also provide Ultimate Products with the opportunity to create a more diversified and balanced Salter brand portfolio.

Simon Showman, chief executive of Ultimate Products, said: "The Salter name is synonymous with quality and reliability, and millions of households across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ own a set of their scales or one of their many outstanding kitchenware products.

"Few other brands can boast of such a fantastic history and heritage, which includes playing a key role in the creation of West Bromwich Albion Football Club.
