The owner of growing restaurant chain Tomahawk Steakhouse has unveiled plans to have 25 venues around the º£½ÇÊÓƵ before the end of the year.

Howard Eggleston first launched the popular steak restaurants with the inaugural site five years ago in Potto, North Yorkshire, specialising in supersize Tomahawk steaks, Himalayan salt dry-aged beef and Yorkshire wagyu. Its popularity has led to openings across the North East and further afield under three brands – Rio Brazilian Steakhouse, Tomahawk Steakhouse and Pollo – including bases in Yarm, Newcastle, Jesmond, Ponteland.

The group, which currently has turnover over £35m, is now putting rapid expansion plans into action, starting with the opening of its site in Walkergate, Durham, on the site of the former Chiquito restaurant. Around £300,000 has been invested into the Durham site, creating 30 jobs new jobs at the 110-cover restaurant.

Meanwhile, Tomahawk Steakhouse is also set to take a prime location in Morpeth, Northumberland, after snapping up 4 Market Place. Its Rio brand is also set to continue to grow, with planned openings in Sunderland, Warrington, Knutsford and Altrincham before the end of the year,

Mr Eggleston said the current end of year expansion strategy will take the full estate to 25 venues, with the Morpeth restaurant and Nottingham site set to open next month, and Sunderland following in November. Mr Eggleston said: “2022 has opened out to be a really exciting time for the expansion of the Tomahawk group and we have been inundated with potential sites all over the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

“We are really pleased to be a part of Walkergate in such a vibrant central location, the fact we are next door to such a fantastic growing brand similar to ours in the rate of expansion and just goes to show the faith the scheme has in Rio to be placed alongside Lane7.

“We are busy daily touring the country meeting with landlords and agents, securing sites, but that doesn’t mean we are anywhere near capacity. The site in Morpeth will be another brilliant edition to our steadily growing business and with four more in the pipeline coming soon, the Tomahawk team are very excited for what the future holds.”
