Sutton Coldfield's old council house transformed into luxury living space

Apartments in Sutton Coldfield's old council house are up for sale at more than half a million pounds.

Residents of Sutton could be living like, if not royalty, then like mayoralty.

Apartments are now on sale in Royal Sutton Place, formerly the council house for the town, with asking prices of more than half a million.

The landmark Victorian building has .

As the Royal Hotel it accommodated visitors in rather grand Gothic style.

By the early part of the 20th century it was being used as the council house and became the place where the births, marriages and deaths of the local populace were recorded.

Pictures in 1954 show that it had changed little in 100 years, though its grand central tower had been reduced to a similar roof height to the rest of the building.

Two years ago Court Collaboration took on the task of renovating this historic building, turning it into luxury apartments which combine the modern and convenient with the original and unique.

Fireplaces have been preserved in rooms where they were initially installed, with decorative mouldings have been installed into existing apertures and classic cornice skirting boards and ceiling roses have been restored.
