Budget supermarket chain Aldi has submitted plans for another store in Derby which would create around 40 new jobs.

The retailer has lodged a joint application, along with Heatherton Developments (a partnership between Ark Capital and William Davis), with Derby City Council, to build the new store on farmland off Rykneld Road, at Littleover’s Heatherton Village.

According to the application, the new store, which would offer almost 1,800 sq metres of space, would be located on land near to the Hollybrook pub.

The proposed store would be accessed from Rykneld Road and be served by more than 120 car parking spaces.

According to the application, it is hoped that the new Aldi will spark the redevelopment of land surrounding the site, bringing more new homes and businesses to the area.

In planning documents submitted to the city council by DLG Architects, on behalf of Aldi and Heatherton Developments, it said: “The application site is part of a larger area which is allocated for a mixture of housing, employment and extension to the Heatherton neighbourhood centre.

“The proposals, in the context of the planning policy for the site, strike a balance between what is economically viable, the needs and views of the local community and the principal requirements of both modern retailers and future development in and around the site.

“Not only could these proposals create an attractive building within a well maintained landscape they will also be an asset for the local community of Heatherton.
