Further details and images of the stunning plans for historic Caernarfon Castle have been revealed.

Heritage group Cadw wants to introduce new and improved visitor facilities and vertical access to the battlements from the King’s Gate within the 13th Century castle.

Under £3.3m plans submitted on their behalf by Buttress Architects the plans include a glazed lift, cafe and viewing platform.

This project has emerged from a period of considered strategic review by Cadw, both in terms of Caernarfon Castle itself, and in the wider strategic context of Cadw’s anticipated direction of funding - with an expected reduction in funds.

A detailed application has now been submitted with more images and details on the proposal.

A Design and Access report says the application seeks planning permission for:

Caernarfon Castle plans for cafe, lift, new toilets and other facilities

• Inserting new floor plates into all towers of the King’s Gate.

• Viewing platforms and seating atop the King’s Gate.
