Stratford-upon-Avon palatial home fit for the gods

No expense was spared in the creation of Palladio, whose design was inspired by Andrea Palladio, the celebrated 16th-century Venetian architect.

It’s modern, lavish and barely been lived in since it was built by a rich Iranian businessman for his wife in 1999.

Palladio, in Sherbourne Hill, near Stratford-upon-Avon, is a veritable playground for the very wealthy, nestling in 10 acres of the Warwickshire countryside.

Not only does it have eight bedrooms and five reception rooms, there is an indoor leisure complex that many hotels would be envious of, and decor that looks straight out of Hollywood. Oh – and an indoor lift to take the strain, if the stairs become too much.

With a guide price of £5,250,000, it’s not surprising that enquiries are coming from overseas buyers, looking to take advantage of a weaker pound following the EU referendum.

John Denney, of Hamptons International’s Country Homes department, which is marketing the property, describes this modern mansion as “amazing”.

“It is unique,” he says, “and has all the toys that you could want, with a leisure complex with pool and Jacuzzi and gym. It will definitely appeal to the continental marketplace and is already attracting enquiries from overseas.”

Despite being a sumptuous and undoubtedly luxurious property, it seems a little unloved.

The wife of the businessman who built it disliked the house so much that she refused to live there, forcing him to sell it just as the paint was drying.
