Two young Plymouth entrepreneurs are aiming to take on Nike, Gymshark and the other titans of fitness wear with a new brand of fashionable sports clothing – and have their first celebrity endorsement from an Olympic diver.

Tonia Couch, Plymouth-born European diving champ and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, has been wearing outfits from Ocean City brand BuzzPhysique, formed only in 2019 by Busiku Simakoloyi, aged 27, and Johnny Jenkins, aged 26.

But as welcome as the support of the Olympian and ex-British number BuzzPhysique is, the outfits are not just for elite athletes, with the founders seeing their company as “more than just a brand” with an ambition to be a “lifestyle, a community” for people with shared interests in fitness, fashion, style and well being - no matter what their body type.

The online business is less than a year old but already the founders are already selling across the South West, including Bristol, and as far as London and Wales.

And Mr Simakoloyi said: “The dream is to be a national brand and be up there with the best fitness lifestyle retailers.”

BuzzPhysique’s fitness and fashion apparel is designed by the two founders themselves and aimed at people of all body shapes.

So while it provides bras and leggings, it also has hoodies and t-shirts and sees its products as available for “all types of physiques, to help people feel better, to give them that little more self belief, self confidence”.

Mr Simakoloyi said: “If we can design and create a set of leggings that make you feel that little more secure, that little more confident, that little boost, that little extra encouragement is what BuzzPhysique is all about.
