A new , based at Depot Mayfield, has created 150 new jobs since it launched in July.

Escape to Freight Island is part of a £1.4bn transformation of Manchester’s Mayfield district, behind Piccadilly station.

The venue launched its first phase - Platform 15 - at Depot Mayfield, with a 600-capacity outdoor venue which hosts street food traders and live music and DJ sets.

The jobs include hospitality and service roles, from bar and waiting staff to cleaners and builders.

Developers said further jobs are expected to be created as later phases move inside Depot Mayfield.

Escape to Freight Island’s Dan Morris said: “The site has created more than 100 jobs in hospitality at a time where there has been mass redundancies across the sector.

“We have also been able to provide work for events and festival staff and performers and artists.

“The site has provided a much needed morale boost and hope for the future and we are proud of what we have achieved so far.”
