Celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala OBE is putting the finishing touches to his first restaurant outside the capital.

The proprietor of Café Spice Namasté, in East London, and star of shows such as Saturday Kitchen on the BBC, will soon be opening a new site called Tandem, in the food quarter of Leicester's Highcross shopping centre.

Described as a “celebration of authentic Indian cuisine and cocktail mixology”, it will be his first outside London, where he currently has Café Spice Namasté and Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen restaurants which he runs with his wife Pervin.

The Leicester venture will be a collaboration with Raphael Hospitality, which is based in the city.

The original plan was to open in August, but issues with the Grade II listed part of the building - formally the city's Mem-Saab Indian restaurant - meant the renovation work has taken longer than expected.

That work is now complete, but a leak in the roof has caused a further delay to the opening.

On the ground floor is a main bar area while there is fine dining upstairs.

Customers downstairs will be able to try Tandem's small plates, which will have a Goan/ Portugese influence while there will also be a cocktail list which is unique to the venue.
