Rick Stein creates 30 new jobs as meals at-home lockdown sideline is set to stay

The Padstow delivery boxes has boomed with thousands being sent out every week

Slap-up fish suppers at home. Stein's at Home started as a lockdown sideline to keep chefs busy but has taken off in a big way

Rick Stein's restaurant in Padstow is creating 30 jobs to meet demand for its meals at home delivery boxes.

While the restaurant is closed, the business has instead been putting together meal boxes for customers at home.

And the demand has been so great that the team are sending thousands every week and they plan to continue even when lockdown comes to an end.

Michael Rabone, Head of Human Resources, said: "We are excited about the opportunities that our new online business will create and look forward to welcoming lots of local new recruits to our team in the coming weeks."

The business is looking for 30 new recruits to produce and pack the at-home boxes at their production unit, Padstow Kitchen.

From what began as a project to keep the chefs busy, support local suppliers and inject a bit of money throughout lockdown, the Stein's at Home boxes are now one of the best-selling delivery options available in the country.

As the restaurants remain closed until May, the staff who would usually be in the kitchens have instead been put to work on the boxes, keeping the vast majority in employment and off furlough.
