A food market at the heart of Bristol's business quarter is expanding opening hours to meet demand.

Square Route Events, organisers of The Temple Quay street food market say it will open twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 21.

Since September, as more staff have returned from working at home to the offices, the market is returning to pre-pandemic levels, attracting upwards of 1,000 customers every Thursday and organisers say they will add an extra day to cater for the rising numbers they are seeing.

David Pyne of Square Route Events said: “We’re so pleased to see people return in such numbers as Temple Quay continues to welcome back workers. By adding an extra day to the market, we are able to offer new food options as well as some of the traditional favourites to the hundreds of customers who visit every week.”

The new Tuesday market features Filipino street food from Aurora Kusina, Smak Bristol serving Swedish inspired meatball dishes, and gourmet street food pasta from Toff’s Pasta.

Real estate adviser Avison Young is the managing agent for Temple Quay. Director Paul Williams, who is also a board member of The Redcliffe and Temple Bid (Business Improvement District) says that the expansion of the street food market is a real vote of confidence in the area.

He said: “The food market is a highlight of the week for many people, and a great incentive to help businesses encourage their staff back to the office, so to see the market expanding by popular demand to a twice weekly offering is excellent news and indicates that the return to the office is gathering pace.

“We know that being back in the workplace is so important for boosting collaboration and team-working; providing learning opportunities for younger employees as well as improving mental health and social interactions. Supporting local businesses who depend on the trade, this expansion of the market is an excellent indicator of the recovery of the Bristol economy post-lockdown.”
