The restaurant hub set for Barry Island has taken a step forward with the boss of the Loungers chain confirming the group will be opening up next year.

The redevelopment of the Grade II-listed toilet block on Barry Island has been a long-running saga but now seems to be moving forward.

Alex Reilley tweeted a picture of the site and said: "A Grade II listed toilet block in Barry Island I hear you say. Oh go on then."

The cafe-bar chain runs more than 160 Loungers and Cosy Club chains around the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Despite the pandemic the chain opened new sites towards the end of 2020, with Ponto Lounge in Hull and Setado Lounge in Sittingbourne, Kent, and a Cosy Club in Brindleyplace, Birmingham.

The Nell's Point project is being development by James Morse, who was behind the Oyster Wharf scheme in Mumbles, has previously told BusinessLive that three sides of the building will need to come down. Only the facade of the building, will remain.

Mr Morse said he is in discussions with the council about this change in the development but anticipates that work will begin soon and had hoped the scheme would be completed in 2021.
