Landowner and developer The Peel Group is moving its headquarters out of the Trafford Centre.

The shopping mall's creator and former owner is to leave the centre after more than 20 years, the .

Peel Group said it is relocating its staff to the to the Venus building in nearby TraffordCity.

In the 1980s, known then as Peel Holdings, the company - in particular, its leader John Whittaker - conceived of the plans for a complete transformation of Trafford Park area, including its £600 million flagship development, the Centre.

After years of debate over the possible negative impacts such a huge shopping centre would have on its surroundings and a trip to the House of Lords later, Peel were finally given the go ahead a decade later in 1995.

In 1998, the mammoth mall opened its doors and its creators moved in to their new offices inside the largest shopping centre in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ at the time of its reveal.

The headquarters overlooked Peel's work, occupying the famous dome at the centre of the Trafford Centre.

It spent golden years as one of the most successful shopping centres in the country and became the jewel in Peel's crown.
