Dozens of people working for a patisserie firm in Lancashire have been made redundant after the firm collapsed, with the move put down to "immediate" cash flow challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cookeze Ltd, which traded as Patisserie by Nigel Smith, has entered administration and ceased trading, with 72 employees made redundant.

The news about the Chorley catering business, which put on services such as afternoon teas, banquets and tray bakes, was announced on Tuesday, .

Dean Watson of the office of Begbies Traynor and Neil Dingley of Moore were appointed joint administrators of the Buckshaw Village firm on March 24.

The move has been put down "immediate" cash flow challenges as a result of the current Covid-19 pandemic, after a number of sports events that the company would usually "excel" in were cancelled.

Dean Watson, partner at Begbies Traynor, said: "Covid-19 has seen the sports-related events where the company excelled cancelled.

"The immediate cash flow challenge this presented as well as recent significant investment in a high specification modern office complex and commercial kitchen equipment has taken its toll.

"We are in the process of updating staff and providing information on how to claim for their entitlements and advising creditors of the position.
