New plans to bring the padel craze to Rochdale have been revealed.
The newly-formed Rochdale Padel Club is hoping to bring six new padel courts to the area, four of which will be covered to protect players from the weather. The new courts would be accompanied by a clubhouse building with changing rooms, a cafe虂 and a terraced area.
Padel is commonly described as a mix of tennis and squash. Played in pairs on an enclosed court roughly a third the size of a tennis court, padel features underarm serves, wall rebounds, and padded rackets that make it remarkably easy to pick up, even for beginners.
The sport has taken the Greater Manchester region by storm, with a huge number of padel courts being erected in recent years.
The new facility would sit next to Rochdale Cricket Club's pitch. The site, off Bridgeford Road, is underutilised and occasionally used for overflow standing space for cricket spectators, according to planning papers.
Victoria Shaw, operations director of Rochdale Padel Club, said: "We're excited about what this project will bring to Rochdale. Not just as a new sport, but as an opportunity for real community connection.
"Led by Jordan Ingoe, founder and former CEO of 海角视频 Padel Courts and The Hook Club, Rochdale Padel Club is built on experience and passion, and Jordan's vision is clear: this is more than a club. It's a community.
"Since 2023, Jordan has overseen the installation of padel courts across the 海角视频, always focusing on creating lasting opportunities for people to come together and thrive.
"With his roots in the area, our aim is to create something truly meaningful for Rochdale, where everyone, the local community, club members, visitors, and school children all feel welcome and inspired and to once again elevate padel in the North of England."
Eddie Hamilton, committee member of Rochdale Sports Club, added: "We're delighted to welcome Rochdale Padel Club to site, alongside our cricket, lacrosse, racketball and squash facilities.
"This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to further develop our sports offering in Rochdale and strengthen our commitment to the local community.
"We believe that padel will bring a fresh, exciting dimension to the club and look forward to seeing new and existing members enjoy everything the expanded facilities have to offer."
