A new opening date for Cornwall’s newest hotel has been revealed.
The multi-million pound building project on the PIG at Harlyn Bay was halted for the Covid-19 lockdown. Now workers have picked up their tools again with the official opening on July 31.
And the very first guests will be NHS staff as a big thank you for their work during the crisis.
The 15th century Harlyn House was bought for £3million in 2018 and was undergoing the final stages of transformation to become the seventh in the PIG portfolio when the pandemic hit.
The PIG - which last year published a spin-off book THEPIG: Tales and Recipes from the Kitchen Garden and Beyond dedicated to the brand’s style and philosophy - has become an industry leader and praised for cornering the mid-market trend for laid-back retreats.
It has a portfolio of six hotels including the PIG at Combe in Gittisham, Devon, which opened in July 2016 after a £9million transformation and is rarely less than 90% full. The eighth hotel, PIG-in the South Downs, was due to open in 2021.
All the THE PIG Hotels will re-open on July 4 with 190 staff and carers staying for the first night.
The chain received 5,843 nominations from member of the public for the NHS staff who deserved a treat.

A spokesman for the company said: “The PIG experience may look a little different but the team hope it will feel the same; ultimately it will still be the same people caring for guests and delivering the attention to detail and personalised service that all have come accustomed to.
“The team will carry out government measures in a way that is true to who they are. Whilst the health and safety of the team and guests is of top priority, they want guests to relax in a space that feels familiar and that so many have built affection for over the years.”

The team is taking reservations for existing PIG hotels from Monday, July 6, and the PIG- at Harlyn Bay reservations will open later this month. The chain has fixed its rates for 2021 at 2020 prices until July 31, 2020.
The business says it has introduced a series of Covid-19 safety measures including the supply of PPE to guest facing team members and housekeeping teams and health screening for teams when they arrive on site.
All guests will be called in advance of their reservation to clarify the procedures.
The layout of the bars and restaurants have been changed to allow for physical distancing and the restaurants will only be available to hotel guests for lunch and dinner until further guidelines are issued.
