Online car retailer Cazoo has opened a customer centre in Newcastle, creating 20 new jobs.

The motor dealer has invested more than £1m into the site on Scotswood Road, which it acquired earlier this year, employing 20 staff in customer facing and vehicle servicing jobs.

The centre is the 21st collection and drop-off location opened by Cazoo over the last 15 months, and is the second to open in the North East alongside its centre in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

Cazoo customer centre sites give people the option of collecting or dropping off cars bought from or sold to Cazoo, on top of its home delivery and pick up services.

Headquartered in London, Cazoo has seen rapid growth since it was founded by Alex Chesterman in 2018 and has been one of the fastest growing businesses in Europe, driven by the shift to online car buying and selling

Its aim is to make buying or selling a car no different to ordering any other product online, where consumers can buy, sell, finance or subscribe to a car entirely online for delivery or collection in as little as 72 hours.

The New York Stock Exchange listed firm owns and fully reconditions the cars it sells before offering them online for either home delivery or collection, and it will also buy any car directly from consumers.
