Nine-bedroom Victorian home is the most expensive in Birmingham

A stained glass window featuring Lady Godiva is a stunning feature of Birmingham's most expensive home

A stunning house featuring the Midlands’ most famous “nudist” in stained glass has gone on sale for £2,450,000.

Claremont, in Farquhar Road, has shot to the .

The nine-bedroom Victorian home has some striking stained glass windows, including one in the stairwell showing (a clothed) Lady Godiva and her husband.

Claremont was built in the 1890s for the Elliott family, affluent hoteliers who were linked to the Cadburys.

In the late 1960s it was split into apartments. Over the last five years the owner has restored it to its former splendour.

Claremont is at the quieter north end of Farquhar Road in Edgbaston, widely regarded as Birmingham’s most prestigious location.

Edgbaston is not short of large Victorian houses. What makes this one stand out particularly is the stunning glass in the restored entrance hall.

The front door is a beauty with pictoral panels in the middle, to the sides and above it. The enormous Lady Godiva window dates back to the 1700s.
