A new fashion retailer, House of Tweed, is set to open its doors in Birmingham New Street, taking over the premises previously occupied by The Body Shop. The skincare and cosmetics brand closed this long-standing branch in spring, following an announcement of 75 store closures earlier in the year.

A heartfelt message was left for customers in the window, expressing gratitude for their support. The second city centre shop in the Bullring remains operational.

The New Street unit, nestled between Watches of Switzerland and Blue Banana, has been vacant for the past six months. However, it seems a new tenant has now been found.

Last week, the shopfront received a fresh coat of paint and a new sign featuring a stag's head alongside the name 'House of Tweed'. Specialising in luxury handbags and women's accessories crafted from bespoke-designed tweed fabrics, House of Tweed also offers scarves, hats, gloves, and socks made from premium materials.

In addition to these signature accessories, House of Tweed stores typically carry clothing items such as coats, trousers, and tops. As of Tuesday afternoon, the unit, located along the German Christmas Market route, appeared to be undergoing a refit with the first stock items being arranged on shelves and racks, including colourful garments, winter hats, patterned scarves, and printed socks, reports .

House of Tweed currently operates in the south and south-west of England with locations in Taunton, Barnstaple, Eastbourne and Exeter. This will be its first branch in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. BirminghamLive has approached House of Tweed for comments regarding the opening.

Other recent additions to New Street include the hip coffee chain Blank Street, which opened its doors in September, and Mexican eatery Boojum, poised to replace the former Second Cup Coffee before winter sets in. Yakinori is also making a comeback to the street this month after a two-year hiatus.
