A new CEO has been appointed to lead Greggs after Roger Whiteside announced his retirement plans.

Greggs said Roisin Currie, currently retail and property director, has been named as chief executive and will take up the role from the date of the company’s Annual General Meeting in May 2022.

Mr Whiteside has given notice of his intention to retire from the company and it has been agreed he will step down from the board at the close of the AGM, but will remain available to support the transition process until his notice expires on January 5, 2023.

Ms Currie will be appointed as CEO designate and as an executive director with effect from February 1.

Mr Whiteside, 63, said: “Greggs is a fantastic organisation with a very strong team. Roisin is a great leader and has played a key role in the development of the business over many years, most recently in shaping our ambitious plans for further growth. I look forward to supporting her in the transition to her new role.”

He revealed his plans for the future will involve spending time with his family.

He said: "The time had to come eventually. I've always said I wanted to retire before 65, so I'll be 64 and a half by the time I leave, so I've just about made it.
