All 79 Mothercare stores are to close this week, with images having emerged of completely empty shelves and even shopping baskets up for sale.

Pictures have been sent to BusinessLive of bare shopping rails after the mother and baby retailer said all stores are to close by Sunday, with around 50 still open as of Thursday evening.

The company went into administration in November last year following an announcement it had suffered a £36.3m loss in 2018 under a  (CVA), which sparked its demise.

The move, which does not include Mothercare's overseas business, meant a total of 79 stores closing with the loss of 2,800 jobs.

Zelf Hussain at administrator PwC said in November: “It’s with real regret that we have to implement a phased closure of all º£½ÇÊÓƵ stores. Our focus will be to help employees and keep the stores trading for as long as possible.

“This is a sad moment for a well-known high street name.”
