Morrisons is planning to hire 100 more permanent staff at its distribution centre in Bridgwater, Somerset, as part of a shift away from using agency workers, it has said.

The supermarket took over the Willow Green Distribution site from courier business DHL in September last year. The centre currently employs 750 people.

Morrisons said it had already "reached out" to workers who are being made redundant from nearby Somerset food factory Oscar Mayor, which is permanently closing in August.

Oscar Mayer, which employs 860 people in Chard, is planning to relocate its business to other parts of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ during the next 12 months.

The roles at Willow Green include warehousing and logistics jobs, across a range of shift patterns. Morrisons said it had also taken steps to introduce Level 2 logistics apprenticeships on site, as well as degree apprenticeships and graduate schemes.

The supermarket is also running a range of sector-based work academies in partnership with the Job Centre and Weston College.

It said these would give prospective candidates access to relevant training while retaining their benefits. And those who go on to complete the course will be guaranteed an interview, according to the supermarket chain.
