New consumer-focused format to welcome customers in October after taking on town centre premises

Grimsby is to be the venue for the second MKM Home.

The showroom format from the Humber-headquartered nationally-operating builders’ merchant group opened earlier this summer in Hull, where the £658 million business is based. It has now taken on the prominent former Red Security and Hardware site at the entrance to King Edward Street, by the town’s Tesco Extra, with Dunelm, Lees and other interior-focused retailers close by.

Stuart Smith, branch director at MKM Grimsby, said it will open in October.

He said: “We’re looking forward to growing our presence in Grimsby with our new MKM Home showroom. The showroom will be an expansion of our current branch, where we can showcase our large range of stylish kitchens and bathrooms to the public, as well as a place for our trade customers to send their customers to see what we offer.

“The new showroom is located in the town centre, making it easily accessible for the general public to pop in and check out our ranges, and we’re looking forward to helping more people in Grimsby improve their homes with us.”

MKM Home was launched by the firm following the acquisition of fellow Hull firm Brooke Ceramics. It comes as the business celebrates opening its 100th branch this week, in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

David Kilburn, MKM's co-founder, had been working in Grimsby for Harcros when he was made redundant, leading him to approach pal Peter Murray with the idea of going it alone in the builders' merchant trade - 27 years ago.
