Traders and firms in Knutsford are to be balloted on proposals for a Business Improvement District (BID) which could also extend into Tatton Park.

A BID is an area where business rate payers have voted in a ballot to pay a levy into a fund for a fixed period, usually five years, for projects to benefit the BID area. This is in addition to business rates.

If successful at ballot, this would be the third BID in Cheshire East, the first being the Wilmslow town centre BID and the second being Crewe.

Phil Cresswell, executive director of place at Cheshire East, told the corporate policy committee: "The proposed BID is to focus on Knutsford town centre, but also has the scope to extend to Tatton Park.

"If the BID ballot is successful, the ambition is for the BID to come into operation on April 1, 2026."

Cllr Janet Clowes (Wybunbury, Con) said: "Clearly it is important to get that connectivity between Tatton Park and Knutsford to be functional and to help enhance the BID.

"But could you just explain what is the impact going to be on Cheshire East Council, who obviously operates Tatton Park, and additionally, whether or not the National Trust has any comment to make in this regard.

Jo Wise, the council's development and regeneration delivery manager, replied: "If the levy stays at two per cent, as is set out in the draft BID proposal, then based on our current rateable value of Tatton, a levy of around £1,700 would be paid annually.
