Traders and firms in Knutsford are to be balloted on proposals for a Business Improvement District (BID) which could also extend into Tatton Park.
A BID is an area where business rate payers have voted in a ballot to pay a levy into a fund for a fixed period, usually five years, for projects to benefit the BID area. This is in addition to business rates.
If successful at ballot, this would be the third BID in Cheshire East, the first being the Wilmslow town centre BID and the second being Crewe.

Phil Cresswell, executive director of place at Cheshire East, told the corporate policy committee: "The proposed BID is to focus on Knutsford town centre, but also has the scope to extend to Tatton Park.
"If the BID ballot is successful, the ambition is for the BID to come into operation on April 1, 2026."
Cllr Janet Clowes (Wybunbury, Con) said: "Clearly it is important to get that connectivity between Tatton Park and Knutsford to be functional and to help enhance the BID.
"But could you just explain what is the impact going to be on Cheshire East Council, who obviously operates Tatton Park, and additionally, whether or not the National Trust has any comment to make in this regard.
Jo Wise, the council's development and regeneration delivery manager, replied: "If the levy stays at two per cent, as is set out in the draft BID proposal, then based on our current rateable value of Tatton, a levy of around £1,700 would be paid annually.

"That would obviously be added to the levies for other hereditaments within the proposed BID area, which are car parks within the town centre but also Knutsford Library, giving a total of around the £5,500."
With regard to the National Trust, which owns Tatton Park, Mrs Wise said: "Their view currently is that they do not have a strong view, but they can definitely see that there will be potential for benefits from shared trips, synergy between people visiting the town centre and visiting Tatton Park and vice versa, if the measures are taken to connect the two."
Cllr Chris O'Leary (Sutton, Con) proposed the recommendations, which included the chief executive checking the BID proposal, when submitted, and arranging a ballot, and the BID proposer being notified of the council's intention to recoup any costs.
A report on the final submitted proposal will also go to the council's economy and growth committee.
Council leader Nick Mannion (Lab) said: "I'm very supportive of this idea, especially as Tatton Park is the jewel in the crown, effectively.
"We manage it on behalf of the National Trust but, because of its location, it is inaccessible unless you have your own independent means of getting to and from, and anything that increases accessibility, and therefore the income of Tatton Park, is something that we'll surely support."
He added: "And I'm really encouraged by the obvious cooperation and close working between businesses in Knutsford and Tatton Park."
