Ken Murphy: All you need to know about the new chief executive of Tesco

The new CEO has held several senior positions at Boots

Ken Murphy was named one of the most influential people in Nottinghamshire after taking on some of the top jobs in the county's biggest firm, health and beauty giant Boots.

The businessman was named as the new chief executive of Tesco on October 2 after David Lewis announced he would be stepping down from the position of group CEO next summer.

Tesco bosses in a statement said Mr Murphy is "the right man for the job" given his professional background, particularly at Boots.

During his tenure at the company - and prior to the formation of Boots' parent company Walgreens Boots Alliance - Mr Murphy's responsibilities at Boots including BCM, the company that manufactured Boots products.

In 2013, he started in the role of managing director for health and beauty, international and brands, before moving on to the role of joint chief operating officer for Boots in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and Ireland.

Following the creation of Walgreens Boots Alliance, he joined the senior team at the American company, where he was vice president and president of global brands. He also most recently achieved the position of chief commercial officer.

It was during his tenure in this position that Boots entered the Chinese market as the retailer's flagship No7 range went on sale through the website Tmall Global.

The website, part of Alibaba Group Holding, gave Boots a 'virtual storefront' with the potential to reach more than half a billion customers.
