Join an illustrious roll of honour at sublime Stourbridge estate

Lawnswood House Estate has had a number of careful, and well-known, owners.

This is the house that used to belong to Mr Bean.

Not the rubber faced buffoon created by Rowan Atkinson, whose comical interactions with the world have seen him wearing a Christmas turkey for a head.

No, it was a Jack Bean, a famous car manufacturer from the in Wordsley, near Stourbridge, back in 1924.

But Mr Bean was probably not the most notable owner of the estate.

That honour lies with the people it was built for back in the early 1800s.

The Foley family made its fortune back in the 17th century by setting up iron foundries in Stourbridge.

They were a philanthropic-minded lot, the Foleys, using their wealth to build the Old Swinford Hospital in 1677 and also creating the famous Endowed Bluecoat School which still exists today.

But their fortune was sufficient to make sure that family members could live in considerable style.
