Jeweller which sells £195k diamond rings promises money-back – if it snows on Christmas Day

'If one snowflake falls on our store in that two-hour window on Christmas Day, our customers will be quids in'

Lumbers managing director Dominic Gomersall hopes we don't have a White Christmas

A jeweller which sells diamond rings costing £195,000 and £66,000 Breguet watches is promising customers their money back – if it snows on Christmas Day.

Lumbers said anyone who buys a gift there before December 10 will get a refund if snow falls on its Leicester High Street shop 11am and 1pm on December 25. Even a single snowflake will be enough.

As temperatures finally drop, some bookies have dropped their odds on a white Christmas this year. The last widespread snowfall on Christmas Day in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ was back in 2010.

Lumbers management said there was no limit on how much customers can spend – but they won’t be able to buy jewellery then ask for a refund after Christmas Day if the pay-out doesn’t come good. They will, however, still be able to exchange items or get a credit note for any unwanted gifts.

Managing director is the third generation to lead the family business since his grandfather Horace bought the original shop in 1918 – some 37 years after it was established in 1881.

He said people don’t have to shop in person as online sales on the lumbers.co.uk website will apply as well. The only items not included are pre-owned ones, and prices start from around £100.

Mr Gomersall said: “I’m going to be nervously checking the weather apps in the run up to Christmas and then watching the sky on Christmas morning.

“Everyone else hoping for help with the ‘cost of giving’ will be singing ‘let it snow, let it snow, let it snow’.
