TV star Jeremy Clarkson has thanked his staff for making his Cotswolds pub a "roaring success" one year after opening.

The Diddly Squat farmer opened The Farmer's Dog, in Burford, in August last year after documenting the process on the fourth series of his hit Amazon show Clarkson's Farm.

The pub includes a restaurant, one-stop butcher and bottle shop, and a bar. Its seasonal menu also serves food grown or reared entirely on British farms, including pork, beef, lamb and venison.

In an Instagram post, the television presenter wrote: "Exactly a year ago, we opened the Farmer’s Dog to back British farming. Today, there are 146 people on the payroll and I’d like to thank every single one of them for making it such a roaring success."

Despite its success, Clarkson has admitted that running a pub is "very stressful" - and even more so than managing and operating a farm.

The challenges of opening his pub were showcased on Clarkson's Farm, with the presenter, who has no pub background, turning to famous faces including film director Guy Ritchie, fellow Top Gear presenter James May and musician James Blunt for advice.

"There are so many things that you discover about opening and running a pub that you would not even consider," he recently told the Farmers Guardian.

Clarkson said there was an "enormous amount" of food hygiene regulation and also the challenge of finding staff, such as chefs and waiters.

"At the core of my pub is a place where you could go and just for an hour or so, forget your troubles, which is the point of a pub," he added.

Earlier this month, The Farmer's Dog agreed a deal with South West brewery group Butcombe.

Under the terms of the agreement, Butcombe's Original Ale has gone on sale in the pub, while a number of Butcombe's managed pubs will stock Clarkson's Hawkstone premium bottled lager.

In June, Hawkstone was named the fastest-growing private business in the West of England by .
