Inside Stockport Pyramid as it's set to be transformed into 'luxury dining experience'

Plans will see the building transformed into a buffet restaurant and banquet halls for up to 1,500 diners

Imaginative plans to revamp the iconic Stockport Pyramid into a 'luxurious dining experience' have been unveiled, with the structure poised for a major transformation. Affectionately known as 'the eighth wonder of the world', the building has been empty since 2018 – but is set to be transformed by restaurant group the Royal Nawaab.

Stockport council has now backed the initiative to reinvigorate the landmark building by the M60, turning it into a buffet restaurant and event spaces including banquet halls.

The proposal also received backing from Stockport's MP, who conveyed to the council that the pyramid is an "iconic and well-known structure on the Stockport landscape, and it is a detriment that it has been vacant for several years."

The award-winning Royal Nawaab restaurant chain presented proposals last year to morph the pyramid into a venue housing a restaurant capable of accommodating 1,500 guests and 150 employees and providing a venue for significant events like large wedding celebrations. Management says the restaurant will generate new employment opportunities in the area and significantly energise the local economy.

The plans were approved by the council on Thursday (November 14), with operators planning to open the 'unique and luxurious hospitality destination' in the first quarter of 2025, reports .

Royal Nawaab, which operates a pair of eateries in London, says the new establishment will not be merely a 'curry house'. Instead, they say the pyramid's transformation is a 'huge statement', with plans for a 'lavish refurbishment to create a high-end dining destination like no other in the 海角视频'.

The venue will feature a 350-seat restaurant on the ground floor, as well as three luxurious banqueting suites accommodating 150, 300, and 700 guests respectively.

Mahboob Hussain, of Royal Nawaab, said: "Living close to Stockport, the Pyramid has always been an iconic symbol of the town for me. It is unique and we are thrilled to be bringing Royal Nawaab Manchester. This is definitely not 'a curry house'. Royal Nawaab will be a destination and will attract visitors from across the 海角视频 and beyond to experience the best cuisine in the most stunning of settings."
