Swimwear brand Splash About International is celebrating a third successive golden gong at the MadeForMums parenting awards.

The infant-focused Grimsby-based operation - which has recently undergone a huge expansion - took the prize for the flagship Happy Nappy pool product, while a UV Sun & Sea Wetsuit also came up top, ensuring a double in the Best Family Travel category in the under £15 and £15 to £30 brackets.

The business has been built around the swim-school approved swim nappy, and it has put a smile on the faces of those behind the brand in a year where holiday plans have been thrown into disarray in a matter of weeks, with a slump in swimwear sales inevitable due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“In these uncertain and worrying times, to receive the heart-warming news that we have secured the top spot in two highly competitive categories brightened our day,” Bernadette Spofforth, managing director, said.

“These awards are important to us because they are judged not only by parents who really put the products through their paces but also the parenting industry’s critical experts. The family travel sector comprises of an immensely broad range of products and the criteria is not just based on travel friendly products, but quality, value, ease-of-use, durability, longevity and design. We are very proud to tick all these boxes and it’s a bonus that both our products can be used equally at home in the garden as well as abroad.”

More than 150,000 º£½ÇÊÓƵ babies swim each week in a Happy Nappy, when not in lockdown. It is insisted upon by more than 90 per cent of º£½ÇÊÓƵ swim schools and considered best practice by British Standards (BSi) guidelines for baby swimming.

Since its redesign in 2017 the Happy Nappy has gone on to win gold in 18 º£½ÇÊÓƵ parenting awards. The team put it down to the unique ergonomic shape, flexible but fitted gusset and specialist pressure fabric ribbing at the waist and legs, offering the best protection on the market against faecal leaks in the water.

Far newer from the team, recently relocated from Europarc to North Moss Road Industrial Estate, Stallingborough, is the UV Sun & Sea Wetsuit is a unique combination of a supple neoprene body and soft flexible nylon lycra arm and side panels. It provides UPF50+ sun protection but also maintains core body warmth for longer play in or out of the water.
