An independent wine retailer and tasting house has expanded by opening its third venue in the West Midlands today.

Loki Wine has launched the venue in Knowle, near Solihull, after revamping a vacant 1,600 sq ft unit in Station Road.

The new shop has 32 single varietal wines and its launch today coincides with the next phase of coronavirus lockdown restrictions easing across the country.

Loki Wine first opened in 2012 in Birmingham's Great Western Arcade

It has diversified during the pandemic to create an online retail service including virtual tastings delivered by wine experts from across the globe.

The online business contributed to one per cent of its annual turnover before the pandemic but this was expected to grow to 40 per cent, the company said.

Owner Phil Innes said: "Opening our third venue this month to coincide with the reopening of indoor hospitality has been an extraordinary experience.

"We're passionate about Britain's high streets and wholeheartedly believe that, despite the boom of online shopping during the pandemic, our town centres will continue to play a crucial role in society and, most importantly, British culture post-Covid."

The renovation of the vacant unit was supported by a £80,000 loan from HSBC º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Greater Birmingham area director Ian Coulson added: "It's been an extraordinarily challenging year for retail but what's refreshing is Loki Wine's commitment and confidence in our local high streets.

"The team has worked hard to get to this point and deliver a third, high-end wine shop and bar. We wish them the best of luck for the future."
