IKEA has announced the launch date for its new store at Greyhound Retail Park in Chester. The much-anticipated opening in the former Homebase unit is set for 10am on Thursday, October 9.

This store represents a fresh format for the company. Following the recent inaugurations of IKEA Harlow and IKEA Norwich, this will be the third small store to open this year.

The design for the retail park stores has been crafted to be significantly quicker and more cost-effective to set up than traditional IKEA outlets, reports .

The unveiling of IKEA Chester is part of the retailer's expansion strategy, aiming to bring IKEA closer to where people live, work and socialise in areas such as suburbs, towns and smaller cities where the business is not yet physically present.

IKEA says the Chester store's compact layout will be easy to navigate and designed for everyday convenience.

Other key features and services include:

  • A showroom and market hall with some of IKEA’s most popular ranges
  • Online access to the full IKEA range, including the option of home delivery or free collection in 48 hours
  • Planning services for kitchens and bedroom storage
  • The opportunity to buy pre-loved IKEA products, or to bring back IKEA items that are no longer needed in exchange for store credit
  • A selection of food available at The Swedish Bite

Andy MacGregor, unit manager for IKEA Chester, said: "We can't wait to open our new home in Chester. While a small store, customers can still expect the IKEA experience they know and love, including home furnishing inspiration, our signature food, and expert planning services – and, of course, a warm welcome when we open our doors next month."

The launch of IKEA Chester has also created some 35 jobs.
