Home of the day: £850k Mill Race in Wootton Wawen near Henley in Arden

The wheels and stones may have stopped turning but there is still much that can be made out of old mills, with their working parts transformed into quirky decorative assets in these unusual houses, writes Alison Jones

There is a very modern feel to the interior of Mill Race in Stratford Road at Wootton Wawen near Henley in Arden.

This character residence is part of an imposing Grade II listed former mill.

It is an excellent size, offering a substantial, family home that blends contemporary style with features that hint at the history of the building.

The hub of the house is probably the open plan kitchen/dining/family room on the ground floor. It has bespoke units with Miele appliances.

There is a breakfast bar to one end with an opening to the family area which can easily accommodate a dining table, sofas and chairs.

Also on the ground floor is the 25ft drawing room which has a view to the front and a Clear View log burner to keep it cosy.

On the second floor there is more living space in the form of a sitting room/study with double doors opening out onto the roof terrace – an ideal area for entertaining.

Next to this room is a utility with storage and space for appliances plus a toilet with basin.
