Home of the day: £1,350,000 The Old Rectory at Dorsington

Hard work has paid off in the grounds of this Dorsington home with the colourful results raising thousands for charity. Alison Jones reports

The Old Rectory in Dorsington, Stratford-upon-Avon.

The Old Rectory at Dorsington in Warwickshire is a real money spinner, but it is all in a good cause.

The Grade II listed rectory’s gardens are so stunning they have been regularly opened to the public for the last 30 years as part of the National Garden Scheme.

This year they made £21,500 for charity, making it one of the most profitable in the country.

There is certainly plenty to look at. A gravelled path across the front garden leads to the metal gate once used by the vicar to go to St Peter’s Church.

Next to the drawing and dining room is a lawn with deep herbaceous borders and mature beech hedges. An abundance of roses and vines ramble over the house.

A wonderful rose arch leads down to an area with a variety of fruit trees. Next to this is the extensive kitchen garden with individual beds framed by box hedges containing a variety of fruits and vegetables. In addition there are further rose beds and herbaceous borders

An old greenhouse shelters very mature, productive vines

A walkway of espalier fruit trees and box hedging leads to the tennis court. A two acre paddock has mature fruit and walnut trees.
